naughts and crosses

This is a present I made for my brother for his birthday.

This is a bag to hold it, my mum helped me make it out of an old flour bag.

I made the frame and the crosses from sticks I found and raffia tied up, and some small rocks

jet launcher

This is a jet and a launcher that I made from bamboo skewers and an old plastic folder.

This is the jet.

This is the launcher with some elastic to stretch back to make it fly.

Here it is ready to launch.

Here it is flying through the air.

play house

I made this play house out of a two shoe boxes I joined together.

I covered the walls with coloured paper and made furniture and pictures.
My mum helped me make the stairs by folding a strip of paper.

I made a family of people to live in the house.

I made them out of pipe cleaners, pom pom balls and googly eyes.

The next day I made a garage and a car for my house.

trailer

I made this trailer.
I got some cardboard and cut 2 sides the same and then cut a rectangle for the bottom, the same length as the sides.
I cut 2 circles to make the wheels and put a rock on the front to balance it.
Use a paddle pop stick for the tow bar.
I gave it to my little brother Jonno.

bow and arrows

This is me making arrows for my bow.
I made them from bamboo sticks with a pencil sharpener, by sharpening one end of each arrow.
Then I made some flights out of hard plastic and glued them on with the hot glue gun.
Please be careful when you use a hot glue gun because they are hot and scissors are sharp.

Here is a close up of the flights.

I made my bow out of a branch that could bend and some string.
I wound some tape around the middle where you hold it.

I made a quiver out of a belt and an old flour bag.

catapult

I made these for my 3 big brothers for Christmas.

I got a piece of cardboard and cut it the right size, and then I put a skewer in it, and then I put two paddle-pop sticks onto the skewer and joined them together.
Next I put a hole in one end and put some string through it and then I cut a round piece of paper and next cut a triangle in it and then folded it so it made a cup and joined it to the end with blu tack.  I made blu tack balls to fire.

To make it fire you pull on the string.

block tower

One day my brother Tigger and I made a big block tower out of our wooden blocks.

This is me sitting with it, Tigger was the photographer.

This is the finished tower

This is an action shot of it falling down.

This is it afterwards.
It was lots of fun and I really liked doing it.
Then I made a really tall tower.

snowflakes

We made these snowflakes out of paper.
We got a square piece of paper and then we folded it in half on the diagonal (it will look like a triangle), then half again and you may like to do it again.
Then you cut pieces out of it, however you want to.
When you have finished you unfold it and you have a snowflake.
We stuck ours up onto the glass door when we had finished.
Don't they look nice?

dump truck

This is an old dump truck that my big brothers had when they were little.
I made a new back for it.

I got a piece of cardboard and cut a piece for the bottom and next I cut a long piece for the bottom that bent up and glued in onto the bottom with the hot glue gun.
I then did that all around it to make the sides and next I glued it onto the bit on the truck that goes up and down.

This is the truck filled with sand and working again.

my house

This is how I made a house from cardboard.
I cut up an old cardboard box to make the walls.
It wasn't high enough so I put more cardboard on top and to keep it together I used paddle pop sticks glued on with the hot glue gun.

You can reinforce the side with extra cardboard to hold it so it doesn't fall over.
I cut some holes in it for windows and a door.
I used string that ran through a hole in the back to make the door and windows open and close.

Moving onto the roof.
The roof is an entire separate piece that can come off.
Get some cardboard and fold it to make an angle.
Next cut a piece of cardboard for the bottom of the roof the same size as the house or a little bigger.
Tape the cardboard so that it is attached to the bottom of the roof.
Next cut two cardboard triangles for the gables and glue or tape them on.
You may need someone to help you do this bit because it is hard to do with only two hands.
Your house is now finished and you can paint it how you like.

I used red paint for the house and chrome spray paint for the roof.

SAM THE MAN'S TIP: Be careful when you use a hot glue gun as they can burn.
